Good to know before you visit

  • The inner sanctum (garbhagriha) with the sacred four-faced Mukhalinga is closed to live camera streaming and recording, per Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) rules. The temple premises and the famous Bagmati Sandhya Aarti are streamed live — those appear here.

Pashupatinath's greatest festival — hundreds of thousands of devotees and sadhus from Nepal and India converge on the temple for an all-night vigil of worship to Bhagwan Shiva.

Women dressed in red gather and fast for the well-being of their families, offering prayers at the temple in one of Nepal's most colourful observances.

Bala Chaturdashi

Devotees light lamps through the night and scatter sacred seeds along the forest paths in remembrance of departed loved ones.
