Privacy Policy

Darshan (getdarshan.com) operates the Darshanwebsite and mobile apps for iOS and Android (collectively, the “Service”). We are a devotional companion for Hindu pilgrims, worshippers and scripture readers worldwide — offering live aarti, temple guides, yatra planning, pooja booking, Vedic kundali and the Saarthi AI guide.

This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. If you have any questions, email us at support@getdarshan.com.

2a. Information you provide

• Account details — name and email address when you create an account. Authentication is handled through our provider (Supabase).
• Birth details — date, time and place of birth if you choose to generate your Janma Kundali or run Kundli matching. For guests (not signed in), this stays on your device. If you create an account, it is synced to our servers so it’s available across your devices (see Section 4).
• Pooja bookings — name, contact details, sankalp and pooja preferences when you book a live pooja. Shared with the assigned Acharya to fulfil the booking.
• Sangha & waitlist details — group name, trip details and the email/WhatsApp number you provide when joining or creating a travel sangha or a pooja waitlist.
• Messages — questions you ask Saarthi or the in-app search (see Section 6).

2b. Information collected automatically

• Usage analytics — page views, feature interactions and performance metrics via Vercel Analytics, Vercel Speed Insights and Google Analytics.
• Device & approximate location — browser/OS type and country- or region-level location inferred from your IP address (used for analytics, currency and content localisation).
• Precise location (optional) — if you grant location permission, we use your device’s location to find mandirs near you and to set your starting point when planning a yatra. It is used to serve your request in the moment; we do not track your location in the background, store your location history, or sell it. You can deny or revoke this permission anytime in your device settings, and the rest of the app keeps working.
• Log data — standard server logs (IP address, request timestamps) retained for a limited period for security and debugging.

2c. What we do not collect

• We do not collect or store your payment card details — pooja and travel payments are handled by third-party processors.
• We do not track your precise location in the background — it is accessed only when you actively use a location feature and grant permission.
• We do not sell or rent your personal data.
• We do not use your birth details or spiritual preferences for advertising.

• To provide and personalise the Service (e.g. mandir recommendations based on your Kundali).
• To process pooja bookings and connect you with an Acharya.
• To sync your data across your devices when you sign in.
• To improve the Service through analytics.
• To send booking confirmations and service communications (if you provide an email), and reminders you opt into (see Section 9).
• To comply with legal obligations.

Darshanstores your profile, birth chart, planner stops, pooja bookings, practice streak and daily-guidance data in your device’s localStorage. As a guest, this data stays on your device.

If you create an account and sign in, that same app data (profile and birth details, bookings, planner, practice streak and daily guidance) is synced to your private profile row in our database (hosted by Supabase) so it follows you across devices. It is associated with your account and is not publicly visible.

We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights, which are privacy-friendly and do not use tracking cookies, and Google Analytics, which may set first-party analytics cookies to measure usage. We also use a single HttpOnly session cookie for our internal Content Studio tool.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, and we do not use cookies to build advertising profiles. Embedded YouTube content (see Section 7) may set its own cookies when you interact with it.

Questions you ask Saarthior the in-app search are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to generate responses, in accordance with Anthropic’s Privacy Policy. We do not store your Saarthi conversation history on our servers — it exists only in your session and is lost when you close the app or tab.

For Kundli matching and personalised guidance, the name(s) and a derived chart summary (signs, nakshatra, compatibility scores) are included in the request to the AI to produce the reading. We do not retain this with your identity after the response is returned.

To show content in your chosen language, app text may be sent to the same translation service and cached (without any personal data) so everyone gets faster results.

We share limited data with trusted providers only to operate the Service:

• Vercel — hosting, analytics and performance.
• Supabase — database and account authentication.
• Anthropic — AI responses (Saarthi, search, kundali readings) and translation.
• Google — Analytics, and embedded YouTube live darshan via youtube-nocookie.com.
• Travel & shopping partners — Travelpayouts (flights, hotels, trains) and Amazon (samagri / spiritual items) for the booking and shop features.
• Payment processors — to process pooja and travel payments (we never see your card details).

These providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. We rely on their respective safeguards for such transfers.

Darshan may display affiliate links — for example to Amazon for pooja samagri, or to travel partners for flights, hotels and trains. If you book or purchase through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Those partners have their own privacy policies governing your interactions with their sites.

The app links to temple websites, YouTube and other external resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

With your permission, we may send notifications such as aarti or festival reminders and pooja booking updates. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in your device or browser settings. We do not require notifications to use the Service.

On-device data can be removed at any time by clearing the app’s storage (in your browser: Settings → Clear site data).

To delete your account and the data synced to our servers, sign out and email support@getdarshan.com from your registered address with the subject “Delete my account”. We will permanently delete your profile and synced app data within 30 days, except records we must retain for legal or accounting reasons (e.g. completed booking/transaction records). Server logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted.

Darshan is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate personal data.
• Request deletion of your personal data.
• Object to or restrict processing of your personal data.
• Data portability.
• Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal data (we do not sell your data).

To exercise any of these rights, email support@getdarshan.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Our mobile apps are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Those platforms may collect their own data (e.g. installs, crashes, in-app purchases) under their respective privacy policies, in addition to this one.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
