Festivals & Sacred Days

Ramayana Ballet

May–October (dry season)

The signature cultural event of Prambanan — a spectacular open-air dance-drama of the Ramayana performed against the floodlit Shiva temple, staging the epic in Javanese tradition.

Nyepi (Balinese Hindu New Year)

March

Indonesia's small Hindu community holds prayers at Prambanan around Nyepi; special ceremonies are occasionally conducted at the temple, though daily Hindu worship here is limited.

Tawur Agung Kesanga

March

A purification ceremony held by Hindu devotees at the Prambanan complex on the eve of Nyepi, one of the few occasions of organised Hindu ritual at the monument.

Poojas & Sevas

Trimurti Shrines

The complex enshrines the Trimurti, with the tallest central candi dedicated to Bhagwan Shiva and flanking shrines for Brahma and Vishnu; it remains primarily an archaeological monument rather than a site of daily worship.

Hindu Ceremonies

Indonesia's Hindu minority occasionally conducts prayers and purification rites at Prambanan, especially around Nyepi, continuing a thread of devotion at this 9th-century Shiva temple.
